What Is Faceless Marketing?

As social media and influencer marketing continue to evolve, a new entrepreneurial route has emerged: faceless marketing. You might have seen various creators talk about the money they are raking in with faceless accounts on Instagram, I know I have – ‘I made $35,436 this month without showing my face’ so on and so forth.

Sounds like dream, but also like it’s too good to be true. What actually is faceless marketing (and how do people make money doing it?*)

Let’s dive in.

What is Faceless Marketing?

Faceless marketing is exactly what it sounds like: creating an online presence and monetizing it without ever actually showing your face. Through the use of aesthetic content banks, you can establish your own personal brand and sell products digitally without having to show up as yourself.

I can almost guarantee that you’ve seen faceless marketing in practice, but just you’ve just not realised. Why? Because you weren’t supposed to. Content used by faceless marketers blends seamlessly into your feed in a cohesive way. Take a look at these clips… would you know they were made using stock content?

Why Go Faceless?

There are many perks to marketing your business anonymously:

  • No fear of judgement: Many gurus will tell you to show up unapologetically. Lose your inhibitions or worry about what people think of you. I say piss off. It’s hard to let go of something that you’ve always held with you. Sure, work through your fear of judgement. But while you do, make loads of money.
  • Freedom to be uncensored: If you’re showing up as you, it’s hard to really dig in deep to what you need to say to drive a story home. Without showing up as you, you can unapologetically sell your services and products.
  • Avoidance of appearance-based judgement: We all have something we’re a little self-conscious of. For me, it’s my accent. I’m Scottishm with a really thick Glasgwegian accent that doesn’t land well with an American audience. By going faceless, I remove that barrier.
  • Flexibility: You can travel, you can take time-off, you can create an interior-design based account and live in a dingy one-bed with no windows. Without having to actually be the face behind your account, you give yourself the freedom to do whatever you want (whenever you want).

But How Do People Make Money?

I know what you’re thinking (because i’ve been there too). How do people make money with Faceless IG accounts?? It all seems a little MLM, but it’s not.

Faceless instagram accounts are just a way for you to reach an audience (without ever having to wash your hair – winning). They’re not new or revolutionary, they’ve just picked up steam because a LOT of people have realised it’s very easy to make money with them. You do this in one of three ways.

💰 Selling a course with MRR

If you see someone shouting about earning $12,389 in a single day or something ridiculous – I’m 99.98987% sure they are selling one of three MRR courses for faceless marketing. Roadmap to Riches, Simply Passive or The Ultimate Branding Course. What makes them special is that once you buy them they come with Master Resell Rights (MRR). Pay a one off fee of around $500 and you can then sell it yourself for $500 (or more if you want). If you have an audience that trusts you, that adds up QUICKLY.

💸 Selling digital products

Alongside the digital marketing courses, people often sell digital products. These might be guides, templates, or banks of content. Similarly to courses with MRR, digital products with MRR give you an additional stream of income that is an easier sell. $35 for an eBook may be a lot more appealing to your audience than a $497 course. Really know your stuff? Create your own digital products and sell those. The best part of your own products is that it’s passive. Once you’ve made it once, you can sell it a thousand times without having to put in any extra work on the product itself. You’ll sell these through a Stan store or Flodesk link in bio page. These are super easy to set up and you don’t need a website. It’ll cost around $30 per month (give or take) and they’ll deliver the product straight to the customers inbox.

💳 Affiliate income

Ah, my favorite. As you build an audience, selling a $497 guide or even having people part with $30 for your wisdom in PDF form isn’t always as easy as you think. As you grow, you can also monetize with affiliate links. Take my own bio for example. I offer a free month trial for Flodesk in there. Flodesk is how you set up a beautiful ‘link in bio’ page and build an email list. For every person I send towards Flodesk through that link, I’ll get $19. The user gets a free month of a product they actually want. Flodesk gets a new customer. We all win.

You’ll quickly work out which streams of income bring you joy, and which don’t. $50 a day from each of the other four streams is $73,000 in a year. How does that sound next to your 9-5? The girl math is mathing.

I help millenial women make money on Instagram. I'm a 29 year old girl from Scotland who changed her life when she made an Instagram account. I built The UGC Club in a year and it now makes me $12,000 a month (give or take). I don't have a product, I don't sell a dodgy course, but I do make one hell of an income from affiliate links.
